Do you wonder if you could take the same stand that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did? As you ponder what it will be like one day when believers will be made to choose between worshiping the “image of the beast” or accepting their deaths, will you be able to do it? Will I?
And yet the Lord is in the process of preparing us, as He was with them. In their case, He’d already been giving them smaller tests, such as in the matter of refusing the king’s food. And they’d been passing these tests and learning from them.
The same is true for us. All these opportunities God gives us—the little challenges, the everyday moments when we must choose to obey or to compromise—they’re building something in us. They’re strengthening the resolve of our rela- tionship with Him. They’re solidifying the reality in our hearts that Heaven rules—in all places, at all times. So when we face an even harder test, our hearts will be prepared to give testimony even there.
