His Kingdom Will Overcome

August 27, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“The God of the heavens will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed. . . . It will crush all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself endure forever.” —Daniel 2:44

No matter how imposing or impressive any earthly nation or its rulers appear—no matter how certain of its standing or how devoted to its destiny—it contains a crushing in its future.

Think of the “so what” to that statement. We can (and should) be patriotic toward our country, and we can (and should) ask God to give us leaders who rule with wisdom and justice. But there’s a faulty grid in place if we ever place our hope in the “kingdom” of any nation, political party, or candidate. The only kingdom that will matter eternally is the kingdom of God. Let us fly no other flag so high or make any pledge so passionately as the one that goes, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10).

Because the statue of all human kingdoms will someday fall, by His hand and at His feet.
