“Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.” —Luke 1:31
Jesus didn’t consider His deity a thing to be asserted over us but rather emptied Himself, choosing to come as a servant in our likeness (Phil. 2:6–7). The profound significance of this cannot be felt without remembering who this God-Man is.
The Bible tells us Jesus is the image of the invisible God, by whom and for whom all things were created, and the One who upholds all things by the word of His power (Col. 1:15–17; Heb. 1:3). Consider the mind-blowing implications of this in His birth.
Jesus, to whom all things submit, willingly submitted Himself to the limitations of humanity as an embryo. He who gives strength to all mankind allowed Himself to be supported in human arms. The One without beginning allowed Himself to be born.
Jesus, to whom all glory is due, laid aside His glory to descend to the filth of our sin-soaked atmosphere. He did all of this and more because of His love for you and me.
