Humility=Peace

Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty. —Psalm 131:1 NKJV

If we want to have a quiet heart in the midst of life’s problems, we need a heart of humility. We see an example of that in David in Psalm 131. He demonstrates a heart that is humble toward God and others.

The word haughty means “to soar; to be lofty; to mount up; to be proud; to raise up to great heights.” David is saying that he’s nothing compared to God; he has a proper estimation of his worth and value. Then when he says that his eyes are not lofty, he means that he doesn’t look down on others.

If your heart is proud toward God or your eyes are lofty toward others, then you’re going to be devastated by the storms and live in turmoil. But a humble spirit is the basis for a peaceful spirit. If your heart is humble, then you can be quiet and composed within, even as the psalmist was. You can have a peaceful spirit. You won’t be easily disturbed.
