“No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.” —John 6:35
There’s an inconsistency in those who say they love Christ but who aren’t hungry and thirsty for His Word and who are satisfied with hearing from Him only on Sundays or a short reading.
This isn’t bad in itself, but it’s not designed to replace reading and meditation on the Word. Instead, it serves as an appetizer to begin to put our minds and hearts in tune with the things of the Lord and prepare ourselves for when we open His Book with the expectation that He will speak to us. We must yearn for our hearts to burn as the hearts of the disciples burned on the way to Emmaus (Luke 24:32).
May the Word of Christ dwell in us abundantly. It is our food in affliction, says the psalmist (Psalm 119:92). It is true food, and whoever drinks from that water will never be thirsty again (John 4:14). That Word is the Word of God, Jesus Christ Himself.
Make it Personal
Pray that you would have an intense hunger and thirst for the Word of God.
