“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” —Matthew 11:29
Jesus’ invitation into His yoke so that we might learn from Him is the intimate expression of the love He always has for His disciples. In the yoke we are near Him, with Him, becoming like Him. In the yoke we learn who He is and who we are in Him.
The yoke is the place to be.
We are not meant to be off on our own, either doing our own will or attempting to do the will of God to the best of our understanding. In the yoke we receive both power and rest. We learn to recognize the push and pull of God’s timing, the stop and go of His will.
In the yoke we learn to live as one who is a new creation, and we find that we are beyond satisfied with that identity. He satisfies us and He fulfills us.
The yoke is the place to be.
