If It Pleases God

August 21, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“May it happen to me as you have said.” —Luke 1:38

For fifty-seven years, I lived as a single woman. My marital status didn’t happen by accident or because the “right man” never asked me to marry him or because I had made up my mind not to marry. Rather I was single for most of my life because God had chosen for me the gift of singleness.

I believe I was single according to the perfect will and purpose of God. I had no way of knowing how long He was going to give me this gift or whether He would ever choose to give me the gift of marriage. I didn’t know whether or not it would be His will for me to be single in the future. But what I do know is that up until November 14, 2015, being single was His will for my life.

Certainly there were times when I longed for something God hadn’t provided. But over and again, He brought me back to that wonderful place of trust and surrender that says, “Oh, Lord, if it pleases You, it pleases me.”
