Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. —Proverbs 3:5
The first verse of Psalm 131 has become like a mantra in my life: “I do not get involved with things too great or too wondrous for me.” I find myself in so many situations where I must step back and say, “This is too great for me, so I’m not going to let my heart get upset over it.”
We want to be able to control everything, to figure it out and know why things are happening. We want to put all the puzzle pieces together. However, because God is God and we are not, there are billions of puzzle pieces that you and I will never, ever be able to put together this side of heaven.
In order to have a quiet heart, one of the things you need is a heart of simplicity. A heart that says, “It’s okay not to be able to figure everything out. I don’t have to know or understand it all. I just need to trust the Lord.”
