Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights. —James 1:17
Gratitude is an attitude we must cultivate every day, not just one day a year. Medical studies have shown that gratitude is important for maintaining good health. But while it’s true that gratitude is necessary for everyone, as believers it’s a fundamental attitude. Unlike those who don’t know God, we do know where every good and perfect gift comes from.
God’s Word commands us to always be grateful, regardless of the circumstances (1 Thess. 5:18). We have two fundamental reasons to cultivate grateful hearts: gratitude for our salvation and gratitude for daily blessings. Not only has God poured out His grace on us and forgiven us in Christ, He also rains new mercies upon us every morning and supplies all our needs. He gives us more than we deserve.
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, I encourage you to choose gratitude and praise God for His wonderful works—for the good and the not so good, because He has promised that everything will work for our good and for His glory.
