I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. —Psalm 121:1–2
From the terrace of my house, I can see the mountains. During those times when I feel that my heart is about to faint, I’ll look up and Psalm 121 immediately comes to mind. This passage has touched my life in a unique way. It lingers on my mind and in my heart, and I end up reciting, praying, or reading it repeatedly.
The precious words of this psalm speak to my soul, telling me that my help comes only from God. They remind me that no matter what I am going through, He is not only in control but He sovereignly willed my circumstances. And they give me hope and encouragement that this, too, shall pass.
In times of trouble, may our eyes and hearts know where to run—to God, who is our help. In Him we find strength and safety, a shelter from the passing storm.
