Looking in the Rearview Mirror

November 25, 2024 Laura Gonzalez de Chavez

I will recount the steadfast love of the Lord. —Isaiah 63:7 ESV

I’ve learned a lot about God’s character by reading my old journals. My faith is strengthened when I look back and see how God has used every problem and obstacle for good in my life. I’ve been able to connect the dots between seemingly isolated events and have seen God’s hand during them all, like the weaving of a beautiful tapestry.

When I look in the “rearview mirror,” it gives me great security to see God’s providence at work in my life and in the lives of my family, confirming His sovereign control and perfect care, love, direction, and provision.

Whenever I feel discouraged or sad, reading my old journals fills my heart with gratitude and praise. Truly He never abandoned me. Not only that, it also reminds me He will never abandon me because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And He promises that “goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live” (Psalm 23:6).
