The Ministry of Encouragement

September 3, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

My coworkers for the kingdom of God . . . have been a comfort to me. —Colossians 4:11

The ministry of encouragement is one of the most needed ministries in the church today. Encouragement to our souls is like oxygen to our brains. Encouragers are energy-giving people— they infuse grace, hope, life, and comfort into the atmosphere around them.

We might look at people around us who are upbeat and think, Well, they don’t need encouragement. But everyone needs encouragement. Even the apostle Paul needed human encouragement.

Throughout his ministry, Paul found encouragement and comfort in godly relationships and friendships, in partnerships with like-minded servants of the Lord. Paul often felt alone in his work, and he needed other believers to encourage him.

Just like Paul, you can bear with difficult and distressing circumstances if you have some people around you who are encouragers, who bring grace and infuse courage, faith, and hope into your heart.
