In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. —John 1:1
The very first verse in the gospel of John says, “In the beginning was the Word.” Later we see that the Word became flesh (1:14). I think we need to understand that when we run to our Bible for direction, encouragement, and comfort, we’re really running to Jesus. There will be a day when we can be with Jesus in the flesh, but right now the only way we can come to Him is through the pages of His Word.
The Bible is God speaking to us. It’s not just a book. If we want to be with Him, if we want to hear from Him, the only way is through the words He has given us.
I was raised in church and heard good teaching and preaching all my life. But I did not wake up to the beauty of God’s Word until around the age of thirty-seven. Now, when I read the Bible, I find myself falling in love with Him more and more.
