Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. —Isaiah 26:4
When I read Psalm 131, my mind goes to the hymn “Like a River Glorious” by Francis Havergal. Written during a terrible sickness, Havergal expressed the peace she felt through her heavenly Father. The chorus says,
Stayed upon Jehovah hearts are fully blessed, Finding as He promised perfect peace and rest.5
This is not just an old-time hymn but a current-day reality. When our hearts are fixed upon Christ, we can have perfect peace and rest, as it says in Psalm 131: “O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore” (v. 3).
Various translations of the Bible word this verse differently. The King James says, “from hence- forth and for ever.” The NASB says “from this time on and forever.” And the CSB says “both now and forever.”
There’s never a good reason for a child of God to fret, fume, fuss, or fear. Not now, not tomorrow, not next month, not next year. Never. We can always put our hope in Him.
