“Let’s go up now and take possession of the land because we can certainly conquer it!” —Numbers 13:30
When the twelve spies gave their report about the enemies they would have to face in Canaan, everything they said was true. Yet between these men there were two different responses to the same set of facts. Ten men focused on the obstacles while Caleb and Joshua focused on the Lord.
Caleb and Joshua saw the facts. They weren’t in a state of denial. They weren’t saying that the obstacles didn’t exist. They knew they weren’t bigger than the enemy. But what they did know was that God was bigger than the enemy. They knew they couldn’t take the land on their own, but they knew that God could.
They focused on the greatness of God, and they operated on faith while the other ten spies responded to the same set of circumstances based on fear.
Where there is fear, there is not faith. Where there is faith, fear will be dissolved. You cannot walk by faith and live in fear.
