One generation will declare your works to the next and will proclaim your mighty acts. —Psalm 145:4
Several years ago I received an email from a woman in her early thirties. She referenced some activities I’d planned for her when she was a girl and brief conversations we’d had— nothing particularly significant in my mind. But God had used these connecting points as an enduring means of grace and encouragement in her life.
I reminded her that I was close to her current age when some of what she described took place. I shared that my prayer was that her life would be a fragrance of Christ to the younger women in her own sphere of influence and that one day she would have the joy of receiving a note that would bless her as much as her note blessed me.
And so the race goes on. Each of us supporting others and encouraging them to press on. One generation passing the baton to the next, preserving and inspiring godliness and gospel witness. And in the process, the beauty of Jesus shines forth and His kingdom is advanced in our world.
