The decree was issued that the wise men were to be executed, and they searched for Daniel and his friends, to execute them. —Daniel 2:13
Being counted among the people of God doesn’t exempt us from the ordeals of living in a sinful, fallen world. Things looked bad for Daniel, as in many moments throughout our own lives as believers. But Daniel had something the other so-called wise men did not possess.
Daniel responded with tact and discretion to Arioch, the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to execute the wise men of Babylon. “With tact and discretion” (Dan. 2:14). Not panic. What Arioch saw in Daniel was something unexpected.
Strength, with peace. Peace, with strength.
This wasn’t just a reflection of Daniel’s natural disposition. Daniel exuded the quiet assurance of someone grounded in an understanding that Heaven rules. It’s the same quiet assurance that we, too, can experience within us and radiate around us whenever we’re startled by the next piece of upsetting news arriving on our doorstep.
Trouble? Turmoil? False accusations? Flood warnings? No, it’s not good. But it’s no time for panic. Heaven rules.
