A Powerful Witness

December 3, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” —Matthew 5:16

Sometimes our greatest witness to God’s reality and power happens when we suffer affliction, when others see us trusting Him and not being swallowed up by the ordeal. That can be a more powerful witness than never being thrown into the furnace in the first place. Or into the lions’ den. Or into whatever modern-day crucible might be seeking to overcome us today. When we worship and serve God alone; when we refuse to bow to earthly powers, ideologies, and systems; when we refuse to allow interruptions, inconveniences, and unwelcome circumstances to bury us in frustration and self-pity, we set the stage.

We open the door for God’s power and glory to shine through. We cooperate with Him in lighting a path so that even those who’ve rejected or marginalized Him may see that He truly is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). And the reason they see Him in us is because we see Him as our Ruler over everything that touches us.

Make it Personal

How has watching someone you know go through difficult trials while choosing to trust God served as a witness to you and others?
