Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God. —Luke 2:13
We don’t know if the angels sang the words that appear in our Bible. We only know they’ve been delivered to us in print as hymns or poems.
But it was praise at a whole other level. And though it lasted for only a single verse, I feel sure they returned to heaven only to keep praising God.
But think of it. Think of who angels are and why they’d feel so motivated to praise. They have no need of redemption, as we do. And yet they were ecstatic seeing this plan to redeem fallen sinners begin to take shape. And since we know there’s “joy in heaven over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:7), their joy went through the roof at witnessing the precise hour when the Savior of the world was sent down to bring peace to those who would place their faith in Him.
So, as you celebrate Christmas, I urge you to outdo the angels in expressing your praise. Rejoice at what Jesus came to this earth to accomplish.
