“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” —Matthew 6:33
As I look back on the life of my father, I see several reasons for the blessing of God on his life. He put God first above everything else. This priority was evident as he gave the first hour of every day to the study of God’s Word and prayer. In the twenty-eight years that he knew Christ, there wasn’t a day when anything else came before that hour alone with God.
He put God first in his business, despite the prevailing opinion that biblical ethics can’t be applied in the business world. Whenever Dad met anyone for the first time, the upper- most question on his mind was, “Does this person know Christ?” He generally discovered the answer within the first minutes of any conversation, even if the primary purpose of the meeting was business-related.
I love God’s kingdom and His ways, and it’s because of a dad who put God first. I’m thankful for his example and how it’s not only impacted me but so many thousands of others.
