Revive Your Heart

My life is down in the dust; give me life through your word. —Psalm 119:25

Psalm 119 describes many intense emotions. Just in verses 24–32 alone, the psalmist felt dejected, sunken, his soul was prostrate. In the most literal definition, he felt “attached” to dust. However, he wasn’t talking about a physical condition. This was a spiritual issue.

Through it all, he asked God to revive him—but not with human strategies or self-improvement methods. Rather he asked God to revive him according to His Word (v. 28).

When was the last time you felt this way— dejected, prostrate? Perhaps you feel that way today? The question is, will you ask God to show you His ways, His truth? Will you meditate on His promises?

God’s Word gave hope to the psalmist during a time of great pain. And it will do that for you and me as well. When we’re hurting, God’s Word is the only thing we need. It is a balm for the wounded heart. It is the only way we will “not be put to shame” (v. 31).
