Rock-Solid Truth

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned, King forever. —Psalm 29:10

The night before my sophomore year, my family’s house was badly damaged in a fire. In that same year, my dad’s business suffered huge losses and my mother was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor. The flood waters that had been rising now threatened to engulf my entire world.

I sat in a classroom each weekday of that year with my world history book open, studying the history of nations and powers while trying to process one traumatic personal loss after another.

But in the classroom of life God had me enrolled in, I learned that comfort and courage, strength and peace, come from a God who rules over all the risings and fallings in our lives, just as He rules over the risings and fallings in every other place, in every time, around the globe.

During that significant year, what I had previously known theologically proved to be precious, rock-solid truth that could and would preserve my heart in every crisis. Our God is King. He rules over every flood and storm.
