Just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him, being rooted and built up in him. —Colossians 2:6–7
When I first understood the gospel, it was a wonderful thing. For the first time, I saw myself as a sinner. I understood that Christ was everything I needed for my salvation.
However, it was easy to try and add things to my faith like rules about how I should live. While many of these were good things, none could replace Christ. And they can lead you down the path of living once again as a slave, forgetting you’ve been freed through the gospel.
We need to be rooted in the gospel, the good news that we have died with Christ to the old life and have been raised by faith to a new one. Thanks to God’s grace, we can live in the freedom we have in Christ.
To stay rooted, we need to have a relationship with God through His Word and remain in prayer. Our roots must be more and more deeply planted in the great salvation He has purchased for us.
