The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts. —Psalm 28:7
A friend of mine shared a story about snorkeling off the coast of Florida with her friend Paul. At one point, my friend saw a bull shark on her right and two others on her left.
Paul calmly took her hand and directed her toward shore, with the sharks following all the way. “When we hit the sand,” my friend said, “I suddenly realized I hadn’t been afraid. I had confidence in Paul. With him by my side, I felt protected.
“The truth is, however, that Paul couldn’t have saved me if the sharks had attacked. In spiteof this, I had complete confidence in him. The truth also is that God is all-powerful, and He controls all things. There is no reason to fear, even if surrounded by ‘large sharks,’ because I know God is always by my side.”
Put your hand in the hand of your Father and don’t let go. He can handle sharks—or whatever is disquieting your heart today. Trust in Him, and you will make it safely to shore.
