“This poor widow has put in more than all of them.” —Luke 21:3
In Luke 21, Jesus was sitting with His disciples in the temple across from the offering box. He saw rich people giving large sums of money and something else that caught His attention— a widow putting in two small coins. He told His disciples that she had put in more than all the wealthy. “For all these people have put in gifts out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on” (v. 4).
Her offering was so little and yet it cost her a great deal. It’s encouraging to see that her generosity meant a great deal to Jesus. In His economy, He can do more for the poor with a wholehearted gift like this than with a wealthier person’s extras.
When it comes to giving, God is looking at our hearts. Even if I feel that what I can offer is so small, Jesus sees my heart. When I lay it all down for Him, He can do great things with it.
Make it Personal
Do you have something small you could give to the Lord? Offer it to Him and then trust Him to use it for His glory.
