You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body. —1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Some people claim to be surrendered to God, and may even believe they are, but they’re justifying attitudes or behaviors contrary to God’s Word. It may sound like this: The stuff I watch on TV isn’t that bad. Or I admit I have a chronic struggle with overeating and with controlling my temper. But none of us will be perfect until we get to heaven.
If you claim to be a follower of Christ while living in denial about areas of your life that aren’t pleasing to Him, you’re not living a fully surren- dered life—no matter how many people may think you’re a “good Christian.”
To some extent, we all find ourselves in this “deceived” condition. We may feel that com- pared to the world’s standards we’re doing fine. In fact, writing this has forced me to deal with several matters in my own life that I had been overlooking, tolerating, or excusing that are really “surrender issues” at heart. I challenge you to do the same.
