“I live in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and lowly of spirit.” —Isaiah 57:15
In 1995 I spoke to a group of Christian leaders on humility. God graciously used that message in a powerful way.
After that, many people wrote to express their appreciation for what I had shared. The message was distributed in many forms. In the process, I found myself facing a new battle with pride about my message on humility.
I kept many of those letters in file folders. God convicted me that those bulging files were just fueling my pride. Finally, I took the entire contents of those files and burned them. With that single step of obedience and humility, God brought wonderful new freedom to my life. I found my heart growing in tenderness for Him. His Word was quickened to my heart in richer and more personal ways than had been true for a long time.
Whatever our form of temptation, pride and self must die. Then through our brokenness, we will experience the release of the resurrection life of Jesus and the free-flowing power of His Holy Spirit.
