The day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved. —2 Peter 3:10
All through 2 Peter 2–3, the apostle points to the coming day of the Lord. It’s the day of God’s judgment on all unrighteousness and the destruction of the ungodly. As believers in Christ, we are to live in light of the fact that judgment is coming.
However, as a child of God you don’t need to live in fear of that day. Just as God preserved and delivered Noah in the days of the flood and Lot when He sent judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah, He is able to deliver the righteous out of the coming judgment.
If you are righteous, God will deliver you . . . but you need to be building a wall of protection around your life by adding the qualities of 2 Peter 1. The coming day of the Lord should be a motivation for our spiritual growth.
