The Final Word

March 21, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

He sent his word and healed them. —Psalm 107:20

All of us have been on the receiving end of hurtful words. And the enemy knows how to bring those ugly statements to mind out of nowhere.

But that doesn’t mean you’re without help in responding back with confidence and strength. Christ, the living Word of God, endured slander, scoffing, and scorn while on this earth. When He went to the cross, He took upon Himself the weight and consequences of all those sinful words. In so doing, He stripped the power of every evil word spoken over you.

That doesn’t mean you’ll forget every upsetting thing ever said to you. God may use the memory of those words to keep your heart tender before Him and to make you more merciful toward others. But you don’t need to live in bondage to those verbal darts.

So, when you feel condemned or controlled by what others have said, run back to the cross, where Christ, the living Word of God, died to heal the wounds caused by sin and to deliver you from the destruction of cruel words.
