“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” —Proverbs 9:10
As women, we are either building up or tearing down our homes. The outcome is determined by whether we choose wisdom over foolishness (Prov. 14:1). In theory, no one wants to damage their family, but in real life it’s so easy to conform to the world’s foolishness.
True wisdom is only found in God’s Word, and it flows from fearing the Lord (Prov. 9:10). James 3:17 says it “is first pure, then peace- loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.” Every time I read that passage, I have a strong conviction about my need to grow in godly wisdom. The good news is we have hope— because God promises to give wisdom to the one who lacks it and asks for it with faith.
If you’re married, your husband is one of the first people who will benefit from godly wisdom. He will be grateful if your way of living is pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, and sincere. Don’t you want to live that way?
