“This is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” —John 17:3
At the start of a new year, we tend to make determinations of various kinds: quit a bad habit, go on a diet, start an exercise routine, acquire a new skill, etc. Somehow the beginning of a new stage offers us the hope of countless opportunities to change and improve.
But this year, I want to challenge you to make a determination of a different kind: to cultivate your relationship with God. If you really want to grow in your walk with God and deepen your Christian life, this is fundamental. Everything you do and any fruit you bear will depend on the quality of this relationship.
How do you grow this relationship? First ask God to increase your thirst for Him. Decide to seek Him every day with eagerness. He will let Himself be found and will show you who He is—His attributes, His mercy, His mind, His ways, His will. There is no earthly relationship that compares to daily communion with your heavenly Father.
