“I will bring you to the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you as a possession.” —Exodus 6:8
When the children of Israel were delivered out of slavery in Egypt, God led them across the Red Sea and into the wilderness. Then, in Numbers 13–14, God prepared them to go into the land He had promised them.
God’s goal wasn’t for the Israelites to be in Egypt nor to stay in the wilderness. The desert was just part of the journey. He wanted to take them to the Promised Land, a place of abundance and rest.
God has a goal for us as Christians, too. He doesn’t want us to stay wandering around in the wilderness or to stay in slavery to our sin. He wants to get us to the Promised Land.
While heaven will be the ultimate Promised Land, there’s also a promised land for us here on this earth, a place of spiritual freedom, fullness, and fruitfulness in Christ. That is the place God intends to take us.
