Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God. —1 Peter 3:18
In a world that does everything to dull and numb your senses, you need to cultivate sober thinking. You need to look in the right place for things to sustain you when hardships come, including a time when you will suffer for your faith. Where do you look for hope to continue to stand firm?
The answer is found in 1 Peter 3:18. Christ suffered to the utmost on our behalf. Even though He was perfect, He put Himself in the place where you and I should have been. He received the punishment we deserved to open the way to God. Thanks to His suffering, thanks to His obedience until death, today we have free entry into the presence of God. His greatest pain became our greatest victory.
That is the reason for our hope. This is a truth that should shake our hearts and cause us to give thanks to Him and sing praise to His name from now and forevermore (Psalm 7:17).
