They ought always to pray and not lose heart. —Luke 18:1 ESV
A woman I hadn’t seen for years came up to me and said, “You saved my marriage!” She reminded me that she had once shared a concern in relation to her husband’s spiritual condition, and I had said, “It’s not your respon- sibility to change your husband; it’s God’s. Tell your husband what’s on your heart, then back off and let God do the rest.”
For sixteen years she prayed and waited. Though her husband professed to be a Christian, there was no fruit indicating he had a genuine relationship with God. Then all of a sudden, he couldn’t get enough of the Word.
There’s no human explanation for what happened to change this husband, except for a faithful God and a persevering wife who decided to pray rather than prod and provoke.
Are you tempted to lose heart about something you’ve been praying about for years? Don’t stop praying! The same God who sustained this woman and intervened in her husband’s life is able to act on your behalf and glorify Himself in your most hopeless circumstance.
