Under the Surface

Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit. —Ephesians 4:14

I moved into a new house not long ago with a nice backyard. I immediately started making plans to decorate it, until my husband (a civil engineer) noticed the patio floor was sinking in one area. After further examination, he concluded there was a problem with the foundation that could affect the entire structure. My plans were postponed until the entire floor was removed and we analyzed what was underneath.

As I looked at my patio, I was reminded that something can look nice on the surface but have major problems underneath. The same is true for our spiritual lives. If we do not know and accurately handle the Word of God, we will be easily deceived and carried away by every wind of doctrine that comes our way. Or worse—we will be carried away by the culture that seeks to attack and destroy all that God tells us in His Word.
