We Are Weak but He Is Strong

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood. —Psalm 29:10

People rightfully get scared in floods. It’s possible to drown in a flood or to lose your home and personal possessions. When the waters recede, you’re left to pick through the muck and slime of tarnished memories, unable to comprehend how your life could be in such utter ruin and chaos.

Floods are not to be taken lightly. But watch what your “enthroned” King does and can do— whatever form the flood takes in your life: “The Lord gives his people strength” (Psalm 29:11).

This statement implies we are weak—and we are. Every one of us faces many circumstances beyond our control in a world that often seems to be falling apart. But “my grace is sufficient for you,” the Lord declares to us; “my power is perfected in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9). That’s why we, His people, can humbly, confidently affirm, “When I am weak, then I am strong” (v. 10).

Because He who reigns forever over the flood imparts His strength to those who trust Him with their weakness.
