Who Do You Say I Am?

March 1, 2024 Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

He asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” . . . “But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am?” —Mark 8:27, 29

Some things can be borrowed, but when it comes to what we really believe about Jesus, we must answer for ourselves. We cannot copy and paste our faith.

Imagine the uptick in intensity when Jesus moved from asking the disciples what people were saying about Him to asking them what they believed. It’s a question every one of us must eventually answer: “Who do you say Jesus is?” There is simply no escaping it. And whatever your answer, it carries serious implications for your life and future. So, it needs to be based on more than mere conjecture or common knowledge. It needs to contain more than just Christian-sounding vocabulary.

Your answer needs to be truthful. It needs to be the honest declaration of your heart’s belief. And it needs to be grounded in the truth of the Word of God—no mixing and matching of the gospel plus self-accomplishment or the gospel plus anything.

Make it Personal

Who do you say that Jesus is? Say it out loud or write it down. Your soul needs to hear it again and again.
