I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. —Galatians 2:20
The apostle Paul exhorts us to walk by the Spirit rather than depend upon our own efforts (Gal. 5:16). But how do you know if you’re walking in self-dependency or Spirit-dependency?
• Self-dependent people focus on what they can do. Spirit-dependent people focus on Christ and what He has already done.
• Self-dependent people look inward for strength. Spirit-dependent people look to Christ for strength.
• Self-dependent people believe that they have something to offer. Spirit-dependent people know apart from Christ, they can do nothing.
• Self-dependent people seek to reform their old ways. Spirit-dependent people seek to crucify old ways.
When we walk by the Spirit in hour-by-hour dependency we’ll see lasting change happen in our lives. The choice is set before us today: Who are we going to depend on? Self or the Spirit?
Make it Personal
Pray that you would leave self-dependency behind and depend on the Spirit, moment by moment throughout every day.
