“I am the Lord’s servant . . . May it happen to me as you have said.” —Luke 1:38
It’s easy for us to glibly use the name Lord when referring to God. But calling Him Lord is to say, “Yes.” Yes to His will, His Word, and His ways.
If you live a surrendered life, does that mean you’ll go to the mission field, have to quit your job, or always live alone? Maybe. Maybe not. In a sense, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is saying, “Yes, Lord.”
Surrendering to God may mean being happily married for half a century. Or being faithful in a difficult marriage to an unbeliever. Or being widowed and left to raise young children. Or never marrying.
It may mean parenting many children. Or few children. Or no children.
It may mean you make lots of money and use it for God’s glory. Or that only your essential needs are met and you choose to be content with little. Regardless, what matters is saying, “Yes, Lord.”
Total surrender to Christ as Lord means submitting every detail of our lives to His loving rule.
