A Clear Conscience
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Scripture tells us about an event that may seem strange in our current political climate.
Near the end of his life, the prophet Samuel stood before all the people of Israel and said, “Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? . . . Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? Testify against me and I will restore it to you." The people responded, "You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man’s hand.”
Samuel ended his public service with a clear conscience. He didn’t have anything to hide. He didn’t have to put a good spin on a flawed record. Are you living in a way today that will give you a clear conscience tomorrow?
Being dishonest and covering your sin will only lead to shame. But if you are repentant and honest, you can look forward to years of joy ahead.
