A Portrait of Love
Woman: At our wedding, we had this song played from the love chapter of the Bible. Now that I’ve been married for a while, I don’t think anyone can really love like that chapter talks about.
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: You’re right! The love chapter, 1 Corinthians 13, paints an amazing portrait of love. It says that love is patient and kind. It doesn’t insist on its own way. It’s not irritable or resentful. And so on. And it’s true—no one has the ability to perfectly live up to that standard. Except for Jesus.
This chapter doesn’t just paint a portrait of love; it also paints a portrait of Christ. The fifteen characteristics of love we find there describe Jesus. And if we allow Him to fill our lives, guess what? We can love the way this chapter describes.
If you want to show love to other people, the best thing you can do is empty yourself and ask Jesus to live His life through you.
