Arsenic in the Coffee
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: A number of years ago the members of a church in Maine discovered that a little bit of impurity can be very dangerous. Several members had grabbed a cup of coffee before going to a meeting. Within hours, more than a dozen of them were seriously ill, and within days, one man had died.
Investigators discovered that a man with a vendetta against the church had dropped a handful of powdered arsenic in the church’s coffee urn.
What a picture of what just a little bit of sin can do to any of us. Like that poison, sin can go unnoticed until we see its devastating results.
The apostle Paul said, “Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?” (1 Cor. 5:6). Just as a little bit of yeast works itself through a loaf of bread, a little bit of sin will affect every part of us.
So the next time you’re tempted with what seems like a small sin, remember that sin is like arsenic. Even a small amount is deadly.
