Better than Sacrifice
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Sometimes God calls us to take some pretty specific actions.
Man: In the furniture industry it’s not uncommon to steal other company’s designs. Well, God convicted me that it was wrong, and I needed to ask forgiveness.
Nancy: God told King Saul to do something very specific—punish the Amalekites for their evil, destroying every person and animal. Saul did destroy most of the people and animals, but he spared the enemy king and kept the very best of the livestock. His excuse was that the livestock could be used as a sacrifice.
God’s response? “To obey is better than sacrifice.”
Saul’s choices show us something that is important. Partial obedience is disobedience.
Man: So I went to my competitor and told him what had happened and asked for forgiveness. He was extremely gracious. He said I could donate the money to charity. I felt so free!
