Care for the Word
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Even as He hung on the cross, Jesus was intent on accomplishing everything He was sent to do.
An important Old Testament prophecy about the suffering Messiah came true at His crucifixion. In John chapter 19 we read this: “Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), ‘I thirst.’”
Through torture, agony, and painful breaths on the cross, Jesus uttered those two powerful words: “I thirst.” And why? Not just to express a physical need. John tells us it was “In order to fulfill the Scripture,” a reference to a description of the suffering Messiah found in Psalm 69. What an incredible picture of Jesus’ deep reverence for God’s Word, down to the smallest details!
Do you love God's Word and honor it as Jesus did? Do you bring it to mind in your sufferings?
