Even a Horse?
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: When I was growing up, my dad would gather us together as a family every year and challenge us to make some New Year’s resolutions.
He told us that if we kept them all year long we could have anything we wanted. I remember we asked, "Even a horse?" That was the biggest thing we could think to ask for. And he said, "Even a horse, if you keep your New Year's resolutions all year long."
He knew what it took us a few years to learn: that, left to ourselves, we couldn’t keep our resolutions. Our willpower is weak, and it’s only God’s Spirit that allows us to do anything good.
But my dad also knew that it was good for us to evaluate areas where we needed to grow and aim for some improvement.
You probably won’t promise your kids a horse, but why not challenge them to make some godly resolutions this year?
