Examining Our Habits
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Jonathan Edwards was used by God in a powerful way during the First Great Awakening in the 1700’s. When Edwards was a young man, God was preparing this servant and dealt with him even over the issue of eating and drinking. Here’s what Edwards wrote:
Jonathan Edwards: Resolved, to inquire every night before I go to bed, whether I have acted in the best way I possibly could, with respect to eating and drinking.
Nancy: You may think, "I'm not sure I want to think about that before I go to bed. Why should that be something we examine every night?" But Edwards’ supreme purpose in life was to glorify God. He understood the words of 1 Corinthians 10:31: “Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Jonathan Edwards: Resolved, to maintain the strictest temperance, in eating and drinking.
Nancy: Have you resolved to glorify God in every habit of your life?
