Fanfare vs. Glory
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: For hundreds of years the Jews waited for God’s Messiah to show up. Their expectation was that the Messiah would be a military hero delivering the Jewish people from political tyranny.
But when the promised Messiah actually came, many were disappointed. Instead of weapons, armor, and warriors, Jesus clothed Himself in humility, showed love to all, and sacrificed His life. It seemed scandalous that God’s anointed one would suffer, hang on a cross, and die.
Today we are not so different from the Jews of Jesus’ time. We want to have the crowns of glory, not crosses of suffering. We want the victorious battles without actually having to fight.
But our Messiah sometimes calls us to follow Him into seasons of struggle, weakness, and hardship.
Are you faithfully trusting and following the Messiah today?
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
