Forest Fire

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: On November 23, 2016, two teenaged boys tossed burning matches onto the ground by the Chimney Tops Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Their idea of fun turned deadly less than a week later, when strong winds spread the fiery embers toward Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. More than 17,000 acres were burned, over 2,000 structures damaged or destroyed, and most tragically of all, fourteen people lost their lives.

It's easy to hear this and think, How could they play with burning matches in a dry forest!? Yet how often do we throw out our words without thinking about the consequences?

James 3 says, “How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire. And the tongue is a fire.”

Our words carelessly thrown out can do enormous damage, or we can put out the fire before it begins by speaking words of love.
