Give Me Understanding
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: It's easier to have a meaningful quiet time if you have a plan to follow.
Woman: When I get around to reading the Bible, I just kind of pick something. I guess it depends on my mood.
Nancy: If you are wanting to spend time alone with God, here are some ideas to help you get started.
- Spend some time just worshipping and thanking God.
- Confess any sin He brings to your mind.
- Ask Him to show you anything that's keeping you apart from Him.
- Then, before you read a chapter from the Bible, ask God to quiet your heart, to open your ears, and to speak to you through His Word.
Here's a prayer from Psalm 119:18, 34 that I often pray before I read God's Word: "Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. Give me understanding and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart."
If you want to know God through His Word, I promise that He'll help you.
