Giving Thanks
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: When Christmas decorations start going up in late October, we run the risk of losing Thanksgiving, and that’s sad. The holiday is about a lot more than American history. It’s a day set aside to remember a crucial biblical principle of showing gratitude to God.
My friend Barbara Rainey wanted her kids to remember this holiday’s meaning when they were young.
Barbara Rainey: It’s so easy in our country for kids to grow up complaining and griping and talking all the time about what they don’t have and what they’re missing out on. I thought, even if we don’t do anything else on Thanksgiving Day, I am going to have them write down what they are thankful for.
Nancy: I hope you have some traditions that help focus Thanksgiving on the principle found in 1 Thessalonians: “Give thanks in all circumstances.”
This Thanksgiving, why not take Barbara Rainey’s advice and have everyone in your family write down what they’re thankful for?
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
